The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Fenaka Corporation, and Road Development Corporation (RDC) have been assigned to build police stations on 75 islands across the Maldives.

The Ministry of Homeland Security announced that construction will begin this year, following President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s directive. Currently, there are 17 privately rented police stations across the country, including in Malé. With this project, all inhabited islands—except those designated for relocation—will have police services by the end of the year.

Once completed, nearly half of the Maldives' inhabited islands will have dedicated police facilities. The Ministry stated that this will reduce rental costs and improve service efficiency.

President Dr Muizzu, during a visit to Vadhoo on January 21, reaffirmed his commitment to establishing police services on every island. He emphasised that each police station or post will be tailored to the population and needs of the island. The goal is to replace rented spaces with purpose-built police facilities by the end of 2025.
