Ahmed Nareesh, the Deputy Mayor of Male' City Council, has resigned from his position.

In a post on X today, Nareesh said that he has resigned from his position as the council member for Central Maafannu constituency and as the Deputy Mayor of Male' City, effective from today, due to an opportunity to serve the country and people in a different capacity.

Nareesh has posted on X the resignation letter he sent to Male' Mayor Adam Azim.

In his resignation letter, Nareesh expressed gratitude to the members of Central Maafannu constituency for trusting him and electing him with a comfortable majority in the 2021 Local Council Elections.

He described his time as Deputy Mayor as the happiest period in his professional environment and thanked the councillors who supported and voted for him for the position.

Nareesh thanked the current Mayor, Adam Azim, who belongs to the opposition MDP, for the lessons learned from him. He also expressed gratitude for the closeness shown by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the assistance provided by him.

Nareesh won the position of Male' Deputy Mayor in a close contest against Ibrahim Shujau, the current MP for Baarah constituency and PNC Vice President, and Nahla Ali, the Vilimale' councillor.

Nareesh was elected as Male' Deputy Mayor with 12 votes out of 19 councillors.
