Maldives Police Service has advised the public not to take the law in their own hands against criminals.

With repeated cases of criminals being punished on the streets being investigated by the police, they issued a statement advising the public to work with the police, the legal investigative body, within the system.

The statement was made after recent criminals involving in crimes such as theft were punished on the streets.

Suspected thieves were confronted and attacked by a public mob recently in Kaafu Dhiffushi saying that theft was on the rise in the island. And last night, a man who stole a case of water was confronted last night in Male’ City.

Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed, too, have previously called on the public to report crimes to the police instead of serving mob justice on the streets. In a tweet he sent out, the Commissioner advised the public to trust the police institute.
