Minister of Housing and Planning Dr. Abdullah Muthalib has stated that under the "Gedhoruverin" scheme, the monthly rent for a two-bedroom flat in the towers being built is MVR 7,000 rufiyaa, and the monthly rent for a three-bedroom flat is MVR 9,000.

At a press conference at the President's Office, the Minister said that the rent decided by the previous government for the flats was not sustainable, and therefore this government has made changes to the rent.

  • Monthly rent: MVR 7,000
  • Maintenance fee: MVR 1,500
  • Security deposit: MVR 15,000
  • Monthly rent: MVR 9,000 rufiyaa
  • Maintenance fee: MVR 1,500
  • Security deposit: MVR 20,000

The Minister said that even with the changes to the rent, MVR 100 million will need to be spent annually from the state budget to pay for the loan taken to build the "Gedhoruverin" scheme towers.

The previous government had set the prices for the flats as MVR 5,000 rent and MVR 1,000 for maintenance for a two-bedroom apartment, and MVR 7,000 rent and MVR 1,000 for maintenance for a three-bedroom apartment.
