Despite losing to India in the final of the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Women's Championship held in New Delhi, India, the Maldives has won a historic silver medal.

While the Maldives had not previously reached the final of a SABA tournament, they won bronze medals in 2016 and 2022. Therefore, this is the first-ever silver medal for the Maldives in a SABA tournament.

This year's tournament is being contested among three countries, with India, the host country, and Nepal competing alongside the Maldives. The Maldives reached the final after defeating Nepal, who played in the final of the last tournament.

While the Maldives lost 113-25 to the strong Indian team in the last match of the league round, India defeated the Maldives 107-32 in yesterday's final.

Raifa Ibrahim, who scored seven points, gave the best performance for the Maldivian team. Next, Fathimath Ihau Shameem and Aminath Shiura Abdul Baree scored the most points for the team.

In this tournament, Vladimir Svejic from Serbia is serving as the coach of the Maldives national team. He took over the team a few weeks ago. Before that, Assistant Coach Guraish Afrah (Grey) was working on training the team.
