Ahmed Azaan, Member of Parliament for Hithadhoo Medhu constituency, has been removed from the PNC Parliamentary Group (PG) WhatsApp group.

According to information received by 'One', Azaan was removed from the group used by PNC parliament members for communication in the evening yesterday. It is reported that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is also a member of this group.

When Azaan was removed from the PNC PG WhatsApp group, the PG leader of the party, Ibrahim Falah, MP for Inguraidhoo constituency, had stated that action would be taken against members who did not vote to accept the bill submitted to the the People's Majlis to reduce the number of Supreme Court judges recently.

In the vote taken in the People's Majlis to accept the bill, 10 PNC members did not participate. Among those who were present at the session but did not participate in the vote, Azaan was one of two members. The other eight members were members were out of town, according to Falah.

The bill to amend the "Maldives Courts Act" to reduce the number of Supreme Court judges was submitted to yesterday's session of the People's Majlis on behalf of the government by PNC's Hoarafushi constituency member Abdussattar Mohamed.

While the bill was accepted and sent to the Judiciary Committee for review from yesterday's Majlis session, the report of the bill was passed in the committee meeting held yesterday. Voting against the bill were MDP member Mauroof Zakir of Kendhoo constituency and MDP Parliamentary Group leader Ibrahim Nazil, MP for Hithadhoo South constituency. Dr. Anara Naeem, PNC member for Huraa constituency, did not vote either way.
