STELCO has begun work to increase Male's electricity capacity by 17 megawatts as Ramadan coincides with the hot season.

In an interview with PSM, STELCO's Managing Director Hussain Fahmy said that the installation of an additional 17 megawatts of electricity is underway in Hulhumale'.

Fahmy said that STELCO has the necessary engines, transformers, and cables for this work, and therefore, there will be no power outages during Ramadan. However, he said that if there is a technical issue causing a power outage, they will arrange things so that services are not disrupted.

"God willing, we won't have to cut power during Ramadan due to lack of capacity," Fahmy said.

Fahmy said that the installation of the additional 17 megawatts of electricity will be completed before Ramadan.

Generally, Ramadan is a month when more electricity is used compared to other months.
