Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that the prices of 141 essential food items will be identified and monitored during the month of Ramadan.
In a press conference held at the President's Office today, Minister Saeed said that the prices of 141 items will be closely monitored during Ramadan, of which 32 items are considered critical.
The Minister said that STO has started preparations for Ramadan six months in advance, and STO's import and sale of essential items at lower prices is not intended to enter the public market. He added that this is done to ensure the availability of essential items at affordable prices.
"This Ramadan, we will closely monitor the prices of 141 items. The government's goal is to import essential items and make them available to the public," the Minister said.
Among the 141 items that the government will closely monitor during Ramadan are 93 essential items used for cooking and food preparation in households, 38 types of fruits and vegetables, and 10 types of fish.
Some of these items have already been imported and are being sold by STO.
