Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed the arrest of nine individuals in Baa Maarikilu on 15 February 2025 during a coordinated drug operation.

The operation was led by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement and Baa Atoll Police. Acting on a tip-off, officers searched the suspects' premises in Maarikilu, leading to the seizure of 162 cans of liquor, five bottles of liquor, and approximately 12.8 grams of suspected illegal drugs.

Following their arrest, the suspects were presented in court for remand hearings. Among them, a 65-year-old was released on conditions, while the remaining eight were ordered to remain in custody for 15 days as investigations continue.
