Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions has approved the appointment of Abdulla Nasheed as the Vice President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), replacing Ahmed Nasheed.

Ahmed Nasheed and Abdulla Nasheed were both appointed to the ACC by the President on 26 January 2019. However, on 10 May, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sent a letter to Parliament nominating Ahmed Nasheed as the Vice President of ACC. The following day, he sent another letter to Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, requesting to replace Ahmed Nasheed with Abdulla Nasheed in the role.

The President did not provide a reason for this change. The matter was referred to the Committee on Independent Institutions for parliamentary approval of Abdulla Nasheed’s appointment.

Last week, the committee approved Nasheed's candidacy in Parliament.
