Police have arrested a suspect linked to violent crimes upon his arrival in the Maldives.

The Maldives Police Service reported that 31-year-old Maldivian Hussain Areesh was taken into custody at Velana International Airport. He had attempted to flee to Malaysia despite being under a court-issued arrest warrant. However, Malaysian authorities denied him entry, and he was sent back to the Maldives on a different flight.

Areesh is suspected of carrying out a violent assault near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on the 4th of this month, where he allegedly attacked someone with a dangerous weapon before escaping. Police are continuing their investigation.
