President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his condolences following the passing of renowned Maldivian singer Mohamed Majid, popularly known as Mezzo Mohamed.

The 59-year-old singer passed away at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) this morning due to ill health, according to local media reports.

In a post on X, President DrMuizzu paid tribute to Mezo Mohamed’s contributions to the Maldivian music industry, acknowledging his 45-year-long career in the field of arts and entertainment. He also highlighted Mezzo’s talent in creating unique musical compositions, having introduced over 40 individual ragas.

A well-known figure in the 1990s, Mezzo Mohamed gained widespread popularity with songs such as Stars from Heaven, Wisna Thought, and Mast. His legacy in music continues through his daughter, Meera Mohamed Majid, who is also making a name for herself as a singer.
