President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has submitted a proposal to appoint non-resident ambassadors to Bhutan, Kuwait, and Switzerland, referring the matter to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Relations for review.

Under the Maldives Foreign Service Act, the appointment of ambassadors to foreign countries requires parliamentary approval. The proposed appointments include:

  • Shiuneen Rashid, the current Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh, as Non-Resident Ambassador to Bhutan.
  • Ahmed Sareer, the Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, as Non-Resident Ambassador to Kuwait.
  • Salma Rashid, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the Centres, for a diplomatic role.

The committee will now assess the nominations before a final decision is made.
