Nekurendhoo Harbour Development Project has made significant progress, with the construction of the basin for the new harbour now completed. According to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), 71 per cent of the overall work has been finished.
Currently, concrete work is underway as part of the development efforts. The Ministry of Housing awarded the project to MTCC on October 31, 2022, at a total cost of MVR 45.11 million.
The project includes several key components such as installing a mooring buoy, new lamps, and port lights. A 366-metre outer wall and a 212-metre structure are being built, along with revetment over a 166-metre area. Additionally, a 10-metre-long, 9-metre-wide concrete ramp is under construction. Landfilling efforts cover 1,985 cubic metres, while harbour pavement is being constructed over 1,859 square metres. The project also involves embankment filling across 22,323 cubic metres and the re-filling of old embankments over 6,806 cubic metres.
This project aims to enhance port facilities in Nekurendhoo, improving access and operations for the local community. Once completed, it will provide improved infrastructure to support maritime activities in the region.
