Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said he is still happy that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has not come to power and that he will never support their rule.
Speaking at a People’s National Front (PNF) meeting last night, Yameen said he was pleased that someone from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)/People’s National Congress (PNC) coalition had won the presidency. However, he added that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s governance needed restructuring.
Yameen criticised the MDP, saying their government had done nothing beneficial for the country and had only caused harm. He also took aim at Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim, accusing him of making statements as if the Speaker’s position were vacant.
He questioned who had benefited from past governments, referring to resources such as islands and lakes. He warned that if politicians continued acting irresponsibly, the country could face further difficulties. He stressed the need for structural reforms to prevent instability and ensure better governance.
