Maldives Police Service has launched a review into the handling of a case involving a driver who was accused of drunk driving.
According to police reports, they received information about a man allegedly driving under the influence. Responding swiftly, officers arrived at the scene and found that the van he was driving had crashed on Hulhumalé Fithuroanu Magu. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had also collided with the bridge divider connecting Hulhumalé and Hulhumalé Phase 2.
The driver was taken into police custody; however, he was later released after tests for minor substances came back negative. Police confirmed that the driver was released from custody at approximately 1728 hrs.
Authorities have stated that they are currently reviewing the manner in which the driver was taken into custody.
