National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter to 55 people after a fire broke out at M. House Plaza on Monday.

According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), they received a report of the fire at around 6:35 a.m. and quickly responded. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by 7:47 a.m. The fire originated from a pile of garbage inside the long-abandoned house.

No injuries were reported, but water pipes in two nearby houses were damaged. The NDMA stated in a post on X that 55 people—20 foreigners and 35 Maldivians—have been given temporary shelter until repairs are completed.

This is not the first fire incident at House Plaza. On 6th September 2023, a fire broke out when the building was being used as a storage facility. While no injuries were reported, two individuals were arrested on the same day for allegedly setting the fire.

Authorities are continuing their investigations into the latest incident.
