President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) for their landslide victory in the recent by-elections for island councils and women's development committees.

In a post on X, the President described it as a "great victory," highlighting that the PNC won 24 seats uncontested and secured another nine through elections. He also thanked voters and candidates for their participation.

By-elections were held for council seats in two islands and women's development committee positions in ten islands.

The Election Commission reported that 6,275 voters participated, making up 55.4% of eligible voters. Under the amended law, council and women's committee by-elections are now held twice a year.
