The Magodhoo Airport Development Project is making steady progress, with 56 percent of the runway construction completed.
According to the contractor, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), 53 percent of the terminal building and 24 percent of the fire station have also been completed.
The airport was officially handed over to the Regional Airports Company (RAC) on November 14, 2023. The project was awarded to MTCC on October 19, 2022, for MVR 231.5 million. Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih later approved an expansion of the runway to 1,800 metres to accommodate private jets.
Finishing work on the runway, fire station, and terminal structure began in November 2023. Development is also ongoing for a parking area, a jet fuel farm, and a hotel for jet crew accommodation.
