Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has met with key figures as parliament prepares to resume after the recess.
His meetings come amid growing tensions with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Today, he reportedly met with MDP parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Nazil, though neither commented on the discussion. He also met with GA. Nilandhoo Council officials and international human rights lawyer, as confirmed by the Parliamentary Secretariat.
The dispute between Abdul Raheem and President Muizzu worsened after the President removed Abdul Raheem’s son, Ibrahim Faisal, as Tourism Minister on March 25. Abdul Raheem criticised the decision, saying Faisal had met tourism targets and had done nothing wrong.
"If my relationship with the President was good, this wouldn’t have happened," he said, pointing out his role in bringing President Dr Muizzu to power.
After Faisal’s removal, President Dr Muizzu merged the Tourism Ministry with the Environment Ministry and appointed Thoriq Ibrahim as Minister of Tourism and Environment.
