The government has decided to move the residents of HDh. Hirimaradhoo to HDh. Hanimaadhoo after requests from the community.
In September, the Local Government Ministry discussed the move with the Hirimaradhoo Council. While Thulusdhoo was first considered, residents later requested to relocate to Hanimaadhoo instead.
Council President Mohamed Waheed had raised concerns about the island’s shallowing waters, which have made travel difficult. With a population of only 293 people in 2022, Hirimaradhoo’s numbers have been declining.
The relocation aims to provide residents with better living conditions and easier access to essential services.
