President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that everyone's foremost duty to the nation should be to strive to build a brighter future.

In a post on X marking Martyrs' Day, the President urged people to draw inspiration from the courage of national heroes who fought for the country’s freedom.

Martyrs’ Day honours those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, particularly Ali Rasgefaanu, who was martyred while fighting the Portuguese in 965 A.D. to defend Islam and the Maldives. The day is observed on the 1st of Sha’ban each year.
