A man has been arrested for attempting to break into a STELCO transformer substation and commit robbery.

STELCO reported that security cameras spotted the suspect at the Maafannu Madharusa area substation at 0250hrs. The company alerted the police, who then arrested him.

STELCO urged authorities to take legal action to deter such crimes, highlighting the risks involved and the need to track those buying and selling stolen materials.

This is the third attempted theft from STELCO transformers this month. Previous incidents included damage to transformers in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 and an attack on a STELCO employee trying to stop burglars.

Managing Director Hussain Fahmy noted that these crimes are often committed by individuals familiar with the company’s operations.
