The land reclamation for the Th. Guraidhoo Airport Project has commenced, and work on the bund wall is now underway.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which is handling the project, confirmed that bund wall construction has begun in Sarhadhoo as part of the Guraidhoo land reclamation and beach protection efforts.

MTCC was awarded the project on 16 November 2024, with a budget of MVR 106.02 million and a 300-day deadline. The project includes land acquisition for the airport and shore protection work to safeguard the reclaimed area.

Developing an airport in Th. Guraidhoo is a key pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The project involves:

  • Reclaiming 378,350 cubic metres of land
  • Constructing 979 metres of revetment
  • Installing 609 metres of geobag revetment
