Minister of Tourism, Faisal Ibrahim has been dismissed from his position.

In a statement, the President's Office noted that President Dr. Muizzu has assigned interim oversight of the Ministry of Tourism to Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed, effective today.

However, they did not reveal the reason behind his dismissal.

Faisal also remained unavailable for a comment at the time of press, after being contacted by One Online.

The appointment of Faisal as Tourism Minister drew criticism from many. Faisal has been most criticized for his low proficiency in speaking English. In response, Faisal has stated that he is working with a coach to improve his English speaking skills.

Although Faisal did not have extensive experience in the tourism sector before taking up the ministerial position, he has obtained a first degree in Business Management from Malaysia. He wrote his master's thesis on the tourism sector.

Some have also alleged that Faisal was appointed as Tourism Minister because he is the son of the Speaker of the People's Majlis, Abdulla Abdul Raheem. In response to this, Faisal has stated that President Muizzu gave him the position of Tourism Minister because he considers him capable for the role, not because he is Abdul Raheem's son.
