Maldivian badminton player Laiba Ahmed Mahloof has won two medals at the "Winter Chisinau 2025" tournament held in Chisinau, Moldova.
216 athletes competed in the Moldova tournament, with participants from the Maldives, Bulgaria, Myanmar, Romania, and Moldova. The tournament took place from the 24th to the 26th of this month.
Laiba won a silver medal in the mixed doubles event and a bronze medal in the doubles event. In the mixed doubles event, Laiba's partner was Benjamin from Romania. In the doubles event, her partner was Irina from Moldova.
Laiba reached the final in mixed doubles, winning the quarter-final 2-1 against the Moldovan pair of Alexandra and Denis. Although the Moldovan pair won the first set 21-16, Laiba's pair won the next two sets 21-13 and 21-13.
In the mixed doubles semi-final, Laiba's pair faced Moldova's Artiom and Karina. The match also went to 2-1 sets. After losing the first set 21-16, Laiba's pair won the next two sets 21-15 and 21-11.
In the final, Laiba's pair faced Romania's Luca and Isabella. The Romanian pair won the match 21-16 and 21-17.
In the doubles semi-final, Laiba and Irina competed against a Moldovan pair. The Moldovan pair of Patricia and Daria won 2-1. After Laiba's pair won a set 21-19, the Moldovan pair took the match by winning the next two sets 21-15 and 27-25.
