Four uninhabited islands have been handed over to three local councils as part of a decentralisation effort.

Dhaalu Atoll Council received Dh. Minimasgali and Fenfushi, R. In’guraidhoo Council got R. Neyo, and Laamu Maavah Council was given L. Bodumaabulhali. The agreements were signed at a ceremony on Monday by council presidents and government officials.

Minister of Cities Adam Shareef Umar said the move aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to empower councils, boost local economies, and increase financial autonomy. The transfer is part of a plan to hand over 28 uninhabited islands to councils under the government’s 100-day pledges.
