Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested four individuals for attempting to smuggle 12 kg of hashish oil into Maldives via a sea from India.

Following a tip-off, security was tightened in the port area of Tuticorin. On Wednesday, two individuals on bikes were stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of 12 packets of hashish oil. The seized contraband, valued at MVR 1.8 million per kilogram, is estimated to be worth MVR 21.4 million in total.

The arrested individuals include two locals from Tuticorin, aged 34 and 33, a 56-year-old yacht crew member, and a 30-year-old Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.

They are currently in judicial custody. Police spokesperson Ahmed Shifan confirmed that authorities are gathering additional details about the case.
