Indian authorities have arrested a 24-year-old man, Inamul Hassan, at Mumbai airport for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of gold into the country by concealing it in the toilet of a Mumbai-bound flight from Maldives.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs stated that Hassan, a resident of Karnataka, was apprehended three weeks ago based on intelligence inputs. During the investigation, officials discovered 13 pouches containing gold worth approximately 2.1 crore Indian rupees (MVR 3.7 million) hidden in a light panel inside the plane's toilet.

According to reports in The Free Fresh Journal, Hassan admitted to concealing the gold during questioning and revealed that he had resorted to smuggling as a way to make quick money.

The AIU is now investigating the source of the gold and identifying others who may be involved in the operation. Further inquiries are ongoing.
