President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will begin work on the Fainu airport next month.

Speaking during his visit to R. Atoll Fainu, the President highlighted the importance of the airport project, which was a key promise in his election campaign.

The airport is expected to boost the island’s economy, create jobs, and improve connectivity for the community. The project will also include relocating water and sewerage systems in the proposed construction area.

This initiative is part of a larger plan introduced last year to develop airports and coastal tourism across several islands, each with a minimum investment of USD 5,000.

In addition to the airport, the President promised to expand the island’s port, improve sports facilities, and enhance health and education services. He expressed his hope to return to Fainu for the airport’s opening, marking a major step forward for the island’s development.
