President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that work is underway to modernize and improve the quality of hospitals and health centers across the Maldives by bringing in high-quality, branded machinery and equipment.
During a meeting with the people of R. Angolhitheemu as part of his current trip to R. Atoll, the President said that strengthening the health sector is a priority for this government.
The President said that arrangements are being made to bring in high-quality medicines in bulk. Additionally, he said that work is being done to replace the current equipment in hospitals and health centers with those from the world's best brands.
"I have decided to make the facilities and equipment in island health centers and hospitals the best brands in the world. This is also being done through bulk procurement, buying for many islands at once, installing them, and ensuring that the reagents and resources needed to operate them are easily available with such brands. That's how it has been decided to do it," the President said.
The President said that it's currently difficult to find spare parts for the equipment in health centers, which increases operational costs.
He stated that although there would be a large initial cost with the new equipment, it would reduce operational costs in the future and be beneficial.
