Parliament has approved the appointment of Moomina Waheed as the Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM). The position became vacant after Dr. Ahmed Adhuham resigned from the post.
Moomina Waheed’s appointment was unanimously approved by all Members of Parliament who voted. She has been a member of the HRCM since 2020, and before that, she served as the Acting Secretary of the commission.
Moomina holds a Master’s degree in Criminology from the University of Sydney, as well as a Master’s in Human Rights and Democratization (Asia Pacific). In addition to her work with HRCM, she has previously served as a Development Consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
Along with Moomina, the current members of the HRCM include Commission President Mariyam Muna, Aminath Shifa-ath Abdul Razzaq, Samau Ahmed Najeeb, and Ismail Habeeb.
