President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the importance of strengthening relations with other countries while ensuring the Maldives’ independence and sovereignty, and ties with neighbouring countries.
Speaking to PSM after concluding a two-day visit to Estonia, he highlighted that fostering strong ties with neighbours remains a fundamental reality that cannot be overlooked.
As such, the President said that while ties with the neighbouring countries won't change, Maldives must prioritise avenues that benefit the nation. He said his Administration's foreign policy is one that prioritises the nation's interest.
During his visit to Estonia, renowned for its advancements in the digital sector, President Dr Muizzu explored ways to incorporate Estonia’s expertise to propel the Maldives towards becoming a fully digital country. He noted that the discussions held during the trip provided valuable insights into achieving this goal, reinforcing his commitment to digitising all government services during his tenure.
The President expressed optimism about the potential benefits of the visit for Maldivians, describing it as an opportunity to learn from Estonia’s success in leveraging digital technologies to enhance public services. He stressed that such international collaborations would be instrumental in driving progress while upholding the Maldives’ independence and prosperity.
