The Elections Commission (EC) has decided to change the system so that from the 15th of next month, joining political parties will only be possible through eFaas.
EC member Hassan Zakariyya told "One" today that the system will be completely changed, and from the 15th of next month, people cannot join parties through any means other than eFaas.
He said that changing the system to prevent people from joining parties through means other than eFaas will solve the issue of submitting invalid forms, and forms will be accepted according to the current procedure until the end of this month. He also said that form acceptance will be temporarily suspended from the first to the 14th of next month.
Zakariyya further stated that after processing the forms submitted last month for joining parties, they will be published in the party registry and opened for public complaints.
The EC's decision to change the procedure for joining parties comes after the opposition MDP filed a complaint alleging that the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) submitted invalid forms during their "Membership Drive" campaign to increase party members.
In relation to this issue, the MDP Parliamentary Group has also decided today to submit a motion to the People's Majlis to dismiss the Minister of Homeland Security, Ali Ihsaan.
While PNC has admitted that some invalid forms were submitted, both the EC and the police are currently investigating the matter.
