Some Magistrate courts across the Maldives have started publicising identities of individuals who fail to pay child support as per court regulations.

Lh. Hinnavaru Magistrate Court and Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court have begun disclosing the names of those who neglect to pay child support as mandated by court verdicts. However, the Family Court is yet to take similar action.

According to data from the Family Court, cases involving non-payment of child support are among the most common filed in the court.

Under current regulations, parents are required to pay MVR 2,000 per month for one child. For families with more than one child, the payment is MVR 1,000 per month per child. If the father cannot afford these expenses, responsibility may shift to another financially capable individual.

The regulations also allow for higher payments if the father has greater financial resources or if the child requires additional support.
