The government has addressed recent claims regarding potential restrictions on social media platforms, urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation.

In an official statement on X, Heena Waleed, Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, clarified that the claims of social media platform restrictions are entirely false, with no such decisions made or discussed at the government level.

The statement comes amidst growing speculation on social media regarding possible restrictions on digital communication channels. The President’s Office expressed concern over the spread of misinformation, highlighting the importance of accurate information.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration remains committed to upholding citizens' constitutional rights and freedoms, Heena added. She said the government continues to ensure that these fundamental rights, granted under the Constitution of Maldives, are protected.
