The Met Office has forecasted heavy rain for a large part of the Maldives from today until Saturday. Some islands are expected to experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms.
The Met Office has also warned of the possibility of tidal waves affecting some islands in the northern and central atolls. Wind speeds are expected to be between 15 and 25 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 45 miles per hour in thunderstorms.
STELCO stated today that the taskforce formed in response to the adverse weather will be active in all islands where the company provides services.
The taskforce will prioritize securing the company's critical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted utility services to the public, according to STELCO.
The company also stated that, as in previous instances, STELCO employees will continue to provide necessary assistance to the public to minimize damage caused by the heavy rain.
