Election Commission (EC) has addressed concerns about the party membership of Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad, clarifying that he remains a member of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) despite an attempt to transfer him to the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC) without his knowledge.

EC member Hassan Zakariyya told One that an investigation into the matter confirmed the form submitted for MP Ziyad's transfer to PNC was invalid. Following this, MP-Ziyad was re-inducted into the MDP. Zakariyya emphasised that such a situation, where a member is transferred without their knowledge, does not result in the loss of their parliamentary seat.

Speculation arose about whether MP Ziyad might lose his seat if he were to switch parties or be expelled. Zakariyya stated that no such scenario currently applies, as the transfer was unauthorised and invalid.

Attempts to reach MP Ziyad for a comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
