A case has surfaced involving MP Hussain Ziyad from the Vaikaradhoo constituency, who was reportedly signed to the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC) without his knowledge.

Hassan Zakariyya, a member of the Election Commission, confirmed that the commission is investigating the matter. He explained that neither MP Ziyad nor the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had formally raised the issue with the commission, but the investigation is underway.

Questions have been raised about whether MP Ziyad would lose his seat if he switched parties or was expelled from his political party owing to the Anti-Defection Bill. Zakariyya reassured that, in this case, MP Ziyad would not lose his seat, as being moved to another party without the MP’s knowledge does not result in the loss of his position.

One was unable to get a comment from MP Ziyad as he did not respond to the text messages regarding this issue.
