The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has announced that the weather is expected to worsen in some parts of the Maldives starting tomorrow.
In a statement released today, the Met Office said that due to a low-pressure system forming in the southwestern Bay of Bengal east of the Maldives moving westward, there is a high chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Maldivian region.
The Met Office stated that from tomorrow until Saturday, a large part of the Maldives is expected to experience rainy weather, with some islands likely to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
The Met Office further added that there is a possibility of tidal waves affecting some islands, especially in the northern and central atolls.
An official from the Met Office told "One" that wind speeds are expected to be between 15 and 25 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 45 miles per hour in thunderstorms.
The Met Office has urged the public to take necessary safety precautions during this period of adverse weather.
During the recent school holidays, from the beginning of this month, the Maldives has been experiencing bad weather. On the third day of this month, Male' received 60 millimeters of rain within an hour, causing flooding.
