President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to visit Estonia from 13th to 16th January 2025, at the invitation of President Dr Alar Karis.
According to President's Office, this will be the first official visit to Estonia by a Maldivian President, aiming to strengthen ties and explore collaboration in areas like digital technology, e-governance, climate action, and education.
During the visit, President Dr Muizzu will meet with Estonian leaders, including President Karis, Riigikogu President Lauri Hussar, and several ministers. He will also visit Tartu, Estonia’s second-largest city, to tour the University of Tartu, known for its excellence in clinical medicine, as well as the Estonian Genome Database Centre and Greenergy Data Centre.
Estonia is a global leader in digital governance and innovation. President Dr Muizzu will join discussions on digital collaboration, drawing inspiration for the Maldives’ goal to build a digital economy contributing 15% to GDP by 2030. This visit supports the government’s broader vision to transform the Maldives into a developed nation by 2040.
Accompanied by senior officials and Maldivian tech leaders, President Dr Muizzu’s visit highlights the Maldives’ commitment to innovation and global partnerships for development.
