Ali Arshad, 35, from N. Holhudhoo, has been found dead after falling from the "North 7" safari near Mirihi Island Resort. Arshad went missing the previous night, sparking a search operation by authorities.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) recovered his body from a depth of 69 metres in the sea. The recovery was made at approximately 0335hrs, after an intensive search effort.
Police investigations revealed that CCTV footage from the safari showed Arshad standing on the deck before falling into the sea. Tragically, the footage showed his head striking the bottom of the boat as he fell, which may have contributed to his death.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols on safari boats, especially for those on deck at night. Authorities are continuing their inquiries into the incident to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
