President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that efforts are underway to finalise and release the list of beneficiaries under the 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme by Ramadan.

Speaking to media during his visit to Dhevvadhoo, the President highlighted the changes to the Housing ministry in a bit to attend to prevalent issues in the Ministry.

As part of his recent restructuring of ministries, the Ministry's responsibilities are now led by Dr Abdulla Muttalib. The President emphasised that any flats or land distributed illegally, based on false or unverified documents, would be reclaimed. However, he assured rightful beneficiaries that they would retain their allocations.

The 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme, launched on June 26, 2022, during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, aimed to provide flats in the Malé area. A list of beneficiaries was released on November 15, 2023, but allegations of corruption led to complaints filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission. As a result, the current administration initiated a review of the scheme.

Under President Dr Muizzu, new committees were formed to reassess the applications. The review process led to delays, with the list initially postponed indefinitely. The President has now pledged to finalise the list promptly and allow complaints to be addressed, ensuring the process remains fair and transparent.

President Dr Muizzu expressed hope that the flats and plots would be distributed as promised, stating, he is trying to announce the list by Ramadan.
