President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has acknowledged delays in constructing ice plants on some islands due to administrative issues.
During his visit to the islands of Huvadhoo Atoll, he met with residents who urged him to expedite the construction of an ice plant on their island.
The President explained that the project is funded by the Saudi Fund and assured the community that the necessary funds have already been allocated. However, administrative procedures have caused delays in moving forward.
The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has been tasked with building ice plants on five islands using the Saudi funds. The ice plants are expected to support local communities by boosting fishing and storage capacities once completed.
President Dr Muizzu reiterated his commitment to resolving the issues and ensuring the timely completion of the projects.
