President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the contract to build a 3,000-ton fish processing factory in GDh. Fiyoari will be awarded next month.

Establishing a 3,000-ton fish processing factory in Fiyoari is one of President Muizzu's presidential pledges. It is the only pledge he made specifically for that island.

During his current trip to islands in GDh. Atoll, the President met with the residents of Fiyoari and said that if he were to do something for Fiyoari's development, the most important thing would be to do something for the fishing industry.

He said that work is underway to award the contract to a Chinese company to build the fish processing factory in Fiyoari as he had promised.

"At the current stage of progress, the agreement will be signed by February at the latest, and within a maximum of two months after that, the actual work on the factory will begin on this island," the President said.

According to the President, this factory will be a 100-ton canning facility with a 100 fish meal plant. He also said it will include a 50-ton ice plant.

Highlighting that the fishing industry is one of the top priorities of this government, the President said that when he took office, he had cleared all the backlog of payments due to fishermen, including all the money owed from last year.

He also said that as he had promised, fishermen are now being paid within 48 hours of weighing their catch, and this will continue uninterrupted in the future as well.
