The Male' City Council has announced that burials at the Hulhumale' cemetery have been temporarily suspended due to floods in the area.

The City Council explained on its official Facebook page that the water level in the cemetery area had risen between 8 and 9 inches, making it difficult to properly prepare graves.

In light of the situation, the City Council stated that funerals scheduled for Hulhumale' cemetery would be relocated to Aa Sahara in Male'. The City Council apologised for the inconvenience but assured that alternative arrangements were being made.

The Male' City Council did not provide a specific timeline for when burials would resume at Hulhumale' cemetery. Meanwhile, to address the flooding, a total of 30,406 tonnes of water were pumped out of Male' city between 1137hrs and 2030hrs on Saturday.
