L. Gan emerged victorious in the Charity Shield match, defeating defending champions B. Eydhafushi 1-0 to commence the Golden Futsal Challenge 2025.
The thrilling encounter took place at the Rehendhi Futsal Ground in Hulhumalé on Saturday night, marking the start of the Maldives' most prestigious futsal competition.
This victory is L. Gan’s second consecutive Charity Shield win, having defeated Th. Thimarafushi in last year’s match, making them the first team to achieve back-to-back wins in the Shield match.
Both teams were missing key players, adding an extra layer of unpredictability to the match. L. Gan played without their captain Hussain Shareef and Ali Samis, while Eydhafushi lacked their stars Ali Fasir, Hamza Mohamed, and Haisam Hasan, who are currently playing for Maziya Sports and Recreation.
The match saw fierce exchanges, with notable efforts from Eydhafushi's Mohamed Fasir and Ishan Ibrahim. L. Gan, despite some errors in set-piece play, remained resilient. The breakthrough came in the second half when Abdulla Junaid scored the only goal of the match on a set piece. His performance earned him the Man of the Match title.
The opening ceremony added vibrancy to the evening, featuring the unveiling of the tournament’s official song and ball in a unique presentation.
After the match, Sony Sports Director Mohamed Kaleem officially handed over the Charity Shield to L. Gan. In a heartwarming gesture, the Golden Association and L. Gan each donated MVR 25,000 to support the Palestinian people.
The Golden Futsal Challenge 2025 promises an action-packed tournament, with 129 teams competing in 320 matches. As the largest futsal platform in the country, the event is expected to showcase exceptional talent and sportsmanship in the weeks to come. Fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming matches, with hopes for more thrilling performances and memorable moments.
