The Maldives Police Service is looking for witnesses to a road accident involving a police vehicle and a motorcycle in Hulhumale’ Phase II. The collision occurred on 27 December 2024 at 0145hrs near Nirolhumagu.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward and share information by contacting the traffic investigation team at 9444880.
The motorcyclist, a young man, remains in critical condition and is receiving intensive care at IGMH. According to police, the rider’s licence had been impounded on 21 December 2024 for violating the Motor Vehicles Act.
In a statement, the police acknowledged concerns about possible negligence by the officer driving the police car. "As part of the investigation, we are determining if any negligence by the officer contributed to the accident," the statement read.
The police establishment expressed concern over accidents involving law enforcement vehicles and committed to taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
