Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast bad weather for the next five days, attributed to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over southeast Sri Lanka.

Met Office has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across most parts of the country during the New Year holiday period (January 1-5), accompanied by strong winds and high tides in some islands. Wind speeds are expected to range between 15-25 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph, particularly in central atolls, as well as in the northeast and southwest atolls.

Sea conditions are predicted to be generally rough, posing risks for maritime activities. The Met Office has advised seafarers to stay updated on the latest weather information to ensure safety.
