The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has stated that the accusations against this government have no basis and that swift action needs to be taken regarding corruption cases of the previous government.

In a statement released tonight, PNC said that good progress has been made in the investigations by the police and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into corruption cases, and that these agencies are making allegations against leaders of the previous government. PNC also said that this government will cooperate in investigating corruption cases, even if it involves political figures.

They said that such investigations will require time and resources, and they acknowledge the work being done by independent institutions to expedite investigations and gather evidence. PNC also noted the efforts of this government in combating corruption involving state funds.

"We call on the relevant authorities to take swift action against those involved in these cases and bring them to justice. These are issues directly linked to the country's future and the people. We also request that the police share their findings with the public without any delay," the PNC statement said.

PNC said that opposition parties are targeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu with allegations for political purposes, and it is concerning that no action was taken when MPs belonging to their own government previously called for investigation of corruption cases in 2023. The party also said that the opposition is making accusations against this government by spreading baseless stories.

PNC further stated that despite facing political pressures, this government will not remain silent on corruption cases, and the party will fully support the government's efforts in investigating such cases.

The police are currently investigating cases related to the "Binveriya" and "Gedhoruveriya" schemes run by the previous government. In addition, the police are also investigating corruption cases involving the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
